Under 15 Hurling League. Played at Church Road Saturday 18th March. Blackrock 0 --- 10 St Finbarr's 2 --- 5. The truism that goals win matches was certainly evident in this game as two goals at the beginning and end of the game gave the Barr's a one point victory over the Rockies. Blackrock playing with the biting at their backs were seven points to a goal and a point ahead at the interval. With scores at a premium, Robert Browner had doubled on the ball to the Rocky net early on. However Colman Ruiseal with two points from play, along with Eoghan O'Farrell who put over three, one a fine effort from 60 meters and two frees gave the Rockies an early lead. Pat Deasy and David Healy contributed a point each also from frees. John Monagher put a Barr's penalty over the bar. Both sides matched scores early in the second half. The best score of the game came in the 40th minute when David Healy finished a four man move to convert a fine point. The Barr's however rose their game and with John Kavanagh playing well at the back aided by Gearoid Neff and Patrick Wiley at centre field they put tremendous pressure on the Rockies. They were eventually rewarded when Gearoid Neff scored a close in goal with 5 minutes remaining to put the Barr's ahead. Eoghan O'Farrell scored a point from a free to level matters however Patrick Wiley then seized victory with a fine effort from 50 meters in the final minutes. A huge effort from Pat Deasy fell agonisingly short in the last minute. Elliot Cantwell played well for the Rockies at full back, while Eoghan O'Farrell, Pat Deasy and Paul Bennett struck a lot of ball through the hour, however a return of just four points from play was always likely to come up short.
