Blackrock
National Hurling Club is one of the oldest hurling clubs in
Ireland, having been officially founded in 1883. Hurling was
played in the area long before then.
Founded as Cork Nationals,
the club later changed its name to the Blackrock National
Hurling Club. Our
club enters adult and youth teams in various competitions.

Section Hurling.
Hurling
continues until Saturday morning July 5th at Church Road when
the summer break begins and continues until Saturday 23rd
August.
The
Primary committee wish to thank all who have made the Summer
hurling programme such a fantastic success with huge numbers of
young hurlers turning up for the Saturday morning sessions.
There
will be further Super Leagues for the 5 and 6 year old boys,
starting in September, so if parents wish to have their budding
young hurlers taking part they must ensure their boys are
registered with the Blackrock club for 2008. Registration forms
are available online or each Saturday morning at the club,
beginning on 23rd August.
A
programme of games for all the other panels will also commence
in September.

Ray
Cummins, who graced the hurling fields of Ireland with
distinction, called along to Church Road to view the finals of
the Blackrock Super Leagues on Saturday 28th June and to present
the medals to the young Rockies who took part. He was delighted
to witness the spectacle.
These
Leagues have been played at Blackrock for many years having
continued to carry on the wonderful traditions of the Blackrock
Street Leagues of the 50s, 60s and 70s in the area, through
which most of the Blackrock hurlers developed their hurling
talents.
These
Leagues are sponsored by Carey Tool Hire and director Ken Carey
officiated at the presentation of medals following in the
footsteps of Joe Carey who supported the underage sections of
the Blackrock hurling club for many years and always attended
the finals of the Leagues.

Announcement. Can we ask all parents
and visitors to please
park in the club car park at the Church Road entrance of the
hurling club? Just walk around to the side
hall entrance of the club to enter the pitches. Please
try not to park on the Berlingford Drive roadway or to drive
though the side entrance to the club. This is to ensure
the safety of the young children who are being placed in danger
at present by a few badly parked vehicles on footpaths etc.
